Republic of Kosovo
Kosovo is set to make history as Pristina proudly takes center stage as the host of the 2030 Mediterranean Games! This monumental event not only marks a first for Kosovo but also shines a global spotlight on the country’s cultural vibrancy, sportsmanship, and growing prominence in international affairs.
The Mediterranean Games are a major multi-sport event held every four years for countries bordering the Mediterranean Sea, as well as select invited nations. At present, 26 countries participate in the games:
Africa: Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Morocco and Tunisia
Asia: Lebanon and Syria.
Europe: Albania, Andorra, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Cyprus, France, Greece, Italy, Kosovo, Malta, Monaco, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Portugal, San Marino, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain and Turkey.
The event includes diverse sports disciplines similar to the Olympics, such as athletics, swimming, football, basketball, and gymnastics, with special emphasis on sports that resonate with the region’s heritage, such as water polo and sailing.
In a shining example Albania has expressed full support for Pristina’s candidacy to host the 2030 Mediterranean Games, since Kosovo is a landlocked country with no access to sea or major lakes/rivers. This partnership underscores the deep cultural and historical ties between the two countries and one nation and highlights their shared vision for promoting Albanian culture and hospitality at international level.
